In short: the SP-50 is the pocket tool for occasional work. The SP-70 costs a little more and runs three times as long on a fill - the one to pick if you work all day. The SP-100 and SP-120 are the heavy-duty metal-bodied tools with a rubberised grip, for daily professional use.

The Kit versions are Iroda's factory boxes - the same tool plus four interchangeable tips (PS-01 soldering, PS-3 chisel, PS-9 hot knife, PS-10 hot air blower), 60/40 rosin-core solder, a cleaning sponge and a carrying case.

Making it a burn-in knife

These are supplied as soldering irons. To do burn-in work you also need a catalyst head and flat blade, sold separately - the head turns the flame into radiant heat and the blade spreads it, which is what melts a burn-in stick into a gouge and levels it off.

  • SP-50 and SP-70 take the S-31 head & blade
  • SP-100 and SP-120 take the CT-16 head & blade

Note the Kit versions include a hot knife tip but not the catalyst head - add the CT-16 if you want both.

Made by Iroda. Also sold under the Mohawk name - the SP-100 is Mohawk's M900-3330 and the SP-120 is their M900-M120.
