- Lay the piece on a sheet of white printer paper, both in the shot. That is what lets us correct for your lighting — nothing to tap, it happens by itself.
- Tap the wood on your screen before you shoot. A big white sheet fools the phone into darkening the whole picture; tapping the sample tells it to expose for that instead. This one matters more than any of the others.
- No flash. A bright room or daylight near a window, but not direct sun.
- Tilt the phone slightly so you don’t catch a shine off the finish.
- Get close — the wood and the paper should fill most of the frame.
